Easy Ways to Improve Home Acoustics
It is every homeowner's dream to build a little haven in their home. Be
it a 2 BHK flat in the luxurious precinct of Goregaon East near Western Express Highway or an
independent house in the outskirts of Mumbai, if you dream of a great sound
system or even a home theatre, you may want to put in some thought into
improving home acoustics. Most homes from The Dynamix Group come with excellent
design for superior sonics. To add to it, here are some easy ways to improve
your home acoustics.
Doors, windows, and more
One of the cardinal rules of setting up a room with great acoustics is -
no reflective surfaces. While this may not be completely possible, it is wise
to consider the materials used while designing the interiors of your living
room or bedroom. The first decision you may have to make is regarding the doors
and windows and the glass or frame material. If you are keen on great
acoustics, it is well worth investing in high-quality uPVC frames and
high-performing acoustic windows. Abstain from using glass panes or highly
reflective materials for interiors as well.
Flooring matters
Laminate planks and tiles are popular choices when it comes to flooring
in luxury apartments in Thane
and elsewhere. These are not great choices, however, if you wish to have a room
with superior acoustics. Not only do they tend to cause echo, but they also
amplify sounds like footsteps. You may wish to opt for acoustic underlay tiles
for the room where you set up your speaker and/or home theatre. If you are
moving into a house with pre-installed flooring, you may want to consider
covering the floor with heavy carpets or rugs to help absorb and diffuse the
sounds.
Doing up the interiors
While designing a room which offers excellent acoustics, most people
look at doors and windows and flooring. The one part of the room that often
gets ignored are the walls. Glass walls are unsuited due to their high
reflectivity. This makes bare walls reflect a lot of sounds and cause echoes.
Hanging a large tapestry or putting up heavy curtains are a great way to do up
your interiors and get great sound quality. It is also a good idea to opt for
large soft furnishings like sofas, cushions, and throw rugs.
Positioning it right
Much of the acoustics issues in modern homes can be solved by
positioning the TV, soundbox, speakers, and even the seating right. In most of
our homes, we now use wall-mounted television sets but the walls absorb much of
the sound. Detaching the TV from the wall, setting up speakers to avoid echoes,
and positioning the sofa or chair to receive minimal external interference is a
good idea when it comes to designing your rooms!
Room design
In modern homes, we look for open flowing spaces that are great to host
friends and even small parties. The living room, the dining area, and open
kitchen all flowing into one large space may look roomy and airy but can cause
serious problems when it comes to acoustics. In such situations, it is best to
look for wooden or fabric partitions and dividers to make the space better for
setting up your TV/music systems.
